Frances Matney Woodard (1922 - 1991) was born in Huntington, Texas the daughter of a Methodist minister. After working for the US Military during World War 2, she attended and graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. After marrying, she settled in Longview, Texas where she was very active as a Sunday school teacher, youth & children's choir director, church secretary, choir member, songwriter, and soloist at her Church and throughout East Texas.
She was a spirit-filled believer who loved the Lord. She was a prolific writer who dedicated her last years in this world to writing songs and poetry, many that were never distributed or published outside the family. I am very proud to share some of her writing with the world. I pray that it blesses you. -- Harrison Woodard

One day as I was sad and grieved
I knelt to pray
I knelt to pray
I asked for help to solve the cares of the day
The song had gone from my heart
The Lord heard my prayer
But only told me to wait
To wait - a difficult command
But I waited - and I waited -
Sometimes it seemed endless
I could only hold to God's hand
After a time the waiting is over
And cares began to change
As the Lord led me and guided me
Slowly to the place He arranged
And He told me of the words He
Wanted me to share
That He is love
That He is joy
And that each time we need Him
He's always there

Peace will come on wings of song
Peace will be yours your whole life long
If you will just say, "Jesus"
"I give my life to you"
Joy will come and fill you now
Joy will ease the line from your brow
If you will just say, "Jesus"
"I give my life to you"
Love will come and light your soul
Love will fill you and make you whole
If you will just say, "Jesus"
"I give my life to you"
If you will just say, "Jesus"
If you will just say, "Jesus"
If you will just say, "Jesus"
"I give my life to you"

Love the Father
And love the Son
Then you will know how to love everyone
Love your neighbor
Love your friend
Love that person who may have sinned
Love is the one thing that will open the doors
Love is the power to take you to other shores
So, now all you do, and all you say
Your wishes and all your way
Must be guided by this love
If you feel you cannot – don’t despair
Just ask God to fill you with His love to share
You’ll feel it so completely
That you’ll forget every care
And have no desire except to give it everywhere.

Happy as a Mockingbird singing in a tree
That’s what the Lord wants us to be
He wants His children filled with His love
Don’t look down – just look up above.
Praise for the Father who brings it to pass
The blue of the sky – The green of the grass
Lord keep your children and help them to be
Filled with praise and always ready to worship thee.
Don't Go Where You Can't Go Back
By Frances Matney Woodard
(1922
- 1991)
Don’t break a heart anymore
Don’t go away too far
Don’t go where you can’t turn back
Don’t run away anymore
Don’t be bitter
Or be a rebel
Stay on the level
Don’t run away anymore.
Don’t just look for fun
Or see how much you can run
Don’t chase the crowd
Don’t lead the pack
See there’s much more to do
There’s much in life for you
Don’t run away anymore.
Don’t go looking just for fun
Or see how much you can run
You should see there’s more to do
Don’t chase a crowd
Don’t lead the pack
Don’t go where you can’t turn back.

There's no more time to fool around
Each day we need to praise and pray
We do not know just when He comes
But we know Jesus and say -
Lift up your voice and sing
He's our everything
Open up your heart today
Lift up your hands and pray
Lift up your voice and say
Jesus is my Lord
Open up your mind to Him
Turn your life around for Him
Love all those that come to Him
Jesus is the Lord

Some mothers are sweet and dear
Some are full of cheer
Some cook delicious food
Some occasionally seem rude
Some get busy and snappy
Some always seem so happy
This day is for every kind
To keep this thought in mind
I bet all those above
Belong to some child they love
And today none will be blue
If someone says, "I Love you."

Mother is a special person
No one else can be the same
You, mother, are the only one I have
So no one else can wear your name.
You're my mother
Special, loving, and dear
Trusting, waiting and patient
Oh, how I wish you were here!
But this day's for you
And you deserve it
Because that's just the way I feel about you.

Every rushing sun brings a day
of bright fanfare
The Lord is in His place and
We are free to share
The bounty of land, sea, earth and sky
All our lives - until we die.
Sometimes we die in spirit
We get so tired and worried by all the torment
Of those around us who have not known the King.
They do not care about anyone
Except their own little circle
And doing their own little "thing".
Some of us can see beauty and nature,
Others only a bright dollar bill.
Silver and gold are trinkets and baubles;
God owns them all on a 1,000 hills.
The lasting thing is love, and song, and laughter.

There's no one who will listen
There is no one to really care
No one to talk with
No one to walk with
But Jesus is always there.
There's no one quite like Jesus
There's no one just the same
No one so perfect
No one so precious
But Jesus - praise His name!
Go on - on your journey
Thru this life
So full of woe
No one else will be a friend
That I know.
Unless he's been to the valley
And over to the other side
Then he's willing to turn and listen
And walk by your side.
Friends turn away and leave you
Loved ones don't understand
Only Jesus can you trust in
When He stretches forth His hand.

Promises, promises, promises -
God has made us promises.
So many promises -
He doesn't break His word
Like people do here in this world -
I can depend on him to keep His promises.
He promises to love me, love me.
To forgive my sins and cancel them
To watch over me in trouble
To provide what I need.
Promises, promises, promises
And He always keeps His promises
My Lord will keep His promise to you.
