"Come near to God and he will come near to you." -- James 4:8

Introduction

This Bible devotion is intended to be used with the children's story, Kirsi, The Little Lost Lamb. Jesus often taught people using parables. In the same way, these stories and devotions are written to teach Bible truths to kids, teens, and people of all ages.

Read the concepts below and look up the Bible verses associated with each one. Use the faith building exercise to build your faith. Based on the shepherds visit to Bethlehem, this story is about a little lamb determined to see Jesus. You can read the real story in your Bible at Luke 2:8-20.

Kirsi, The Little Lost Lamb – Key Concepts

A Parable About Searching For Christ

1. After Kirsi heard about Jesus, she wanted to go see what God had done. It became the chief purpose in her life. What is most important in your life? Are you reading the Bible, praying, worshipping God, wanting to know Jesus as your best friend? Make sure your priorities are in the right order. As you get near to God, He will come near to you.

Psalm 34:10  Psalm 73:28  Hebrews 10:22  James 4:8  1 Peter 2:2

2. Kirsi asked her friend to join her in her journey, but the friend said it was too dangerous. Friends and family can be wonderful. But sometimes their advice may not be the best. Don't let friends and family discourage you from attending church, reading the Bible, or praying. Nothing can distract you from making God the most important thing in your life.

1 Corinthians 15:58  Galatians 6:9

3. Kirsi started her journey and was immediately confronted by danger in the form of a wolf. Instead of being scared, she faced the enemy bravely. You can have the same confidence, if your faith is strong in God. He promises to protect you from the evil one. But you have a part to play. You must study the Bible, believe His promises and walk by faith in Jesus. When your faith is strong, you can walk confidently and not be afraid of anything the enemy throws at you.

Exodus 14:13  Psalm 125:1-2  1 Peter 5:8-10  1 John 4:4

4. The sheep dog thought he was helping Kirsi. Unfortunately, he was keeping her from Jesus. Sometimes people who mean well are actually discouraging you from God’s best. They may be motivated by fear or lack of faith, but whatever the reason, you need to continue to look to Jesus for everything. Never stop learning about God and growing as a Christian.

Psalm 118:9  1 Corinthians 9:24  Galatians 5:7  Philippians 3:14

5. Some friends may hinder you, but others like the donkey may help you. Friends and family may help you in your journey. Be thankful for those that God sends. But don’t rely on them completely. It is up to you to truly know Jesus as your best friend. Read the Bible and pray always so that you know Jesus personally.

Psalm 105:4  Matthew 5:8  Acts 17:27

6. When Kirsi reached the stable she was a little scared. There is no reason to ever be afraid of Jesus. He loves you more than you could ever understand. You can approach him without fear, full of love and confidence. When you really know him, you will experience love and joy unlike anything you have ever known before.

Habakkuk 3:18-19  Romans 15:13  1 Corinthians 2:9

7. When Kirsi’s shepherd saw that she was missing, he spared nothing to find his missing lamb. This is exactly how God feels about you. He desires to have all His children safely under His protection and love. He holds back nothing, including His own son, Jesus, to regain the fellowship of all his “lost lambs”.

Matthew 18:12-14  John 3:16  2 Peter 3:9
